Gokover
Don't judge a book by its cover. Just change the cover.
Overview
Gokover is an app that invites readers who are not happy with the look of the book covers on their shelves, or the ones that they want to purchase in the future, to scroll through it and find a better design than the ones the publishing houses are offering, or create their own customed designs to achieve an aesthetic library of their choice.

Project: Design a B2C E-Commerce app that provides readers with the possibility to customize their book covers as part of a personal project
My role: UX/UI Designer
Timeline: 6 months
Tools: Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Color, Figma, Typeform, Optimal Sort, Usability Hub, Excel, Stark
Inspiration Phase 1: Understand
Understand the problem
Possible Problems

1. Users might not like the covers of the books they own and don't want to give them away.
2. Users might want to create a more aesthetically pleasing library.
3. Users might restrain themselves from buying a book because they don't like its cover.
4. Users might not want to own several copies of a book with different covers.
5. Users might want to create customized book covers.
Possible Solution

An app that offers its users different designs of dust jackets for their books. They can purchase an e-document, and print it themselves in the local print shop of their choosing, or receive the final product by post at the desired address. They can also customize the cover design by getting in touch with the respective designer.
Problem Statement

Readers who don't like the covers of the books that they own need a way to find book cover designs to their own liking because they don't want to give away the books that have an emotional value to them, or restrain themselves from buying new books with covers not to their liking, so that they can have the aesthetically pleasing library they have always dreamed of.

We will know this to be true when we see that users are saving cover designs on their favorites lists, when they are contacting the designer for customizations, and when they are adding the products to their carts and finishing off with purchasing them.

Competitive Analysis
As far as my resources go, I couldn't find on the market any application or website that offers the same products as the app I'm designing. So in this case I won't be creating SWOT Profiles or conducting UX Analysis of any specific product, but throughout my journey, I will be taking inspiration from other similar platforms that I know are successful, each in their own field. The products I will take into consideration are:

User Research
Research goals

1. Narrow down my target audience in order to determine who will my primary persona be.
2. Discover other reasons why my potential users need dust jackets for their books.
3. Find out which devices my potential users use for their purchases online.
4. Identify my user's preferences about the features of an E-Commerce app.
5. Define common points of friction when completing tasks with an E-Commerce app.
6. Learn more about my user's needs, goals, and habits.
Inspiration Phase 2: Observe
Surveys Online
With the survey I conducted, I managed to get the answers for the first three points of my research goals:
I determined who my main persona is: female, 25 - 34 years old, employed, reader
I discovered some other reasons (apart from not liking the cover) why my potential users might want to purchase a dust jacket, but this point will be addressed also during user interviews so that I can be able to go more in-depth and gather more qualitative data.
I also found out my target audience's device of choice when it comes to online shopping.

User Interviews
Introduction

Hi Ron/Claire/Izi,
My name is Klea, and I’m going to conduct today’s interview.
This session will help me to better know your preferences, habits, needs, and goals as readers, and therefore come up with an app that can help you and other readers create the desired reading environment of your choice.
The first thing I want to make clear right away is that there are no wrong answers. Feel free to say what’s on your mind and don’t hesitate to ask questions as we go along.
With your permission, I’d like to record this interview. The recording and your answers will be used for study purposes only.
Before we get started, I’d like to ask just a few quick questions about yourself (how do you identify yourself if you are comfortable sharing, age, and occupation status)
Thank you for participating and now let’s get started.
Script

1. Do you like hardcover books or paperbacks? Which ones do you purchase more and why?
2. How do you feel about books that don’t have appealing covers to you?
3. How do you feel about dust jackets?
4. How would you improve the overall experience with dust jackets?
5. Have you ever felt the need to purchase dust jackets for your books? If yes, what were the reasons behind it?
6. Have you ever thought of building an aesthetically pleasing library at home? If yes, can you describe it to me?
7. How do you feel about online shopping? Do you do it often?
8. Which are the most common apps/websites you use often to shop online and why?
9. Are there any features of these tools that you particularly enjoy and why?
10. What about features that you don’t enjoy? Why don’t you enjoy them?

Research insights

1. Gokover should provide its users with dust jacket options for both paperbacks and hardcover books.
2. Gokover should revolutionize dust jackets.
3. Gokover should have a library feature where users can create a customized library.
4. Gokover should adopt common E-Commerce tools' features, and improve upon others.
5. Gokover should show special care to the services it provides.
6. Gokover should act on the opportunities and offer a better product and service.
